Technology at USF
The use of technology is an integral part of the educational process at the University of St. Francis . St. Francis has been a leader in educational technology and continues to offer our students more technology services every year.
The Latest Technology Happens Here First!
Student Access to Technology
There are general student computer labs across the campuses that are maintained with current computers that are funded through the Academic Computing fee charged to students. In addition to the general-purpose labs, there are discipline specific labs for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Education, Visual Graphics and Mass Communication students. Overall, the University has over 300 computer systems for academic pursuits for our students.
Students may also connect to the University network from the residence hall rooms in Marian Hall, Tower Hall and the Motherhouse. The student must their own computer system for connection in the residence halls.
USF students have access to the University Library, which provides an array of computer based research databases and tools for scholarly pursuits. For more details on services available, please refer to the Library Services website at http://www.stfrancis.edu/libClassroom Technology
The University’s focus on the integration of technology and student learning is evident within our 30 multimedia classrooms for instruction and presentation by both faculty and students. The multimedia classrooms have Internet access, video projection systems, computerized teacher stations, DVD and VCRs and stereo sound equipment for presentations.
Another example of the integration of technology and learning at USF are the 3 Collaborative Learning Classrooms (CLC). These classrooms were specially designed for use with groups and team learning situations. The rooms are equipped with laptop computers, Internet connectivity, an interactive computer whiteboard and other equipment to facilitate the collaborative learning environment.
MyUSF Portal Technology
MyUSF gives you the student a web based interface for identity management, single sign-on capabilities as well as the ability for content aggregation. Now USF students simply log into the MyUSF portal from anywhere and anytime and have access to academic services, online courses, and student administrative information. They also have the ability to use web based mail, can access the university's network storage areas, and our library services or online databases for research. The MyUSF gives you the student access to their information and the ability to easily communication with others in the class as well as the professors and outside experts.
Online Learning Technology
The University of St. Francis was one of the first universities in the nation to offer both undergraduate and graduate online degree programs through the University's Center for Instructional Delivery. In the fall of 1998 USF offered three completely Internet based courses with approximately 45 students. Currently, we offer 120 online courses and over 1500 student registrations per semester.
This Internet based technology is also integrated within the traditional classroom to enhance student learning here at USF. More than 200 hybrid courses per year incorporate the online technology systems to supplement the school traditional classroom based instruction.
Within the online learning environment, professors can use a variety of technologies such as streaming video, audio instruction, voice annotated lecture slides, desktop video presentation software, and the university's supported course management system, WebCT.
